Carl helps clients negotiate the intersection of law and technology, both patenting new inventions and dealing with patent enforcement matters. Carl has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in diverse technology areas including ergonomic devices, sensor systems, traffic safety devices, LED lighting, sporting goods and outdoor products, consumer products and vehicle tracking systems. Carl has represented clients in patent and trademark infringement litigation in courts across the country. Carl also has broad experience in contested matters at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) representing many clients in patent inter partes review proceedings, patent reexaminations and trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings.
With over a decade of experience as an in-house counsel, Carl understands how business objectives and legal objectives work together. Carl provides his clients with incisive answers to their most sophisticated legal issues. A special focus of Carl’s practice includes matters involving cryptocurrencies, and he represents clients in both litigation and transactional matters in that space.
Carl is licensed to practice in the state courts of Colorado, New York and Ohio, and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO. Carl is admitted to practice in numerous U.S. District Courts throughout the country, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Second and Tenth Circuits and the United States Supreme Court.
