Nick H. Thompson

Nick Thompson specializes in entity formation, reorganizations, business transactions, strategic business and succession planning, individual and business tax planning, estate and wealth planning, and probate and estate administration.

Nick assists individuals (regardless of net worth) and businesses across many industries, including professional practices, technology, construction, manufacturing, distribution, retail, and real estate. He has organized and served as counsel to hundreds of entities, including limited liability companies, partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, and nonprofit organizations. Nick harmonizes strategic planning for businesses and individuals with the preparation of comprehensive documents to meet the needs of present and future generations. When necessary, Nick uses the expertise of other RWO colleagues to help his clients navigate their unique challenges and meet their needs.

Using his significant background in taxation and knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, Nick proactively identifies optimal tax treatment for each agreement, transaction, and planning opportunity. Despite the complexity of tax analysis, Nick provides clients with cogent, plain-language explanations intended to foster understanding of the issues and direction where no map previously existed. He has years of experience representing individuals and businesses resolve tax audits and controversial cases. Nick is an advocate for his clients in resolving these disputes before the Colorado Department of Revenue, Internal Revenue Service, and the U.S. Tax Court.
